Ph.D. – Doctor of Philosophy

A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is the highest academic degree

Ph.D. is a doctoral degree with an academic focus. A Ph.D. course is usually of three years duration and candidates need to complete the course within a maximum time span of five to six years. However, the course duration may vary from one institute to the other. Aspirants need to possess a master’s degree to be eligible to pursue a Ph.D. programme.

Candidates can pursue a Ph.D. programme in any stream. In a Ph.D. course aspirants need to select a topic or a subject and do in-depth research on it and answer any queries related to the topic subject.

Earlier, candidates could pursue Ph.D. course through the distance mode, however, as per a circular issued by UGC in 2017 it has been informed that a Ph.D. course pursued through the distance education mode would no longer be recognised.

Candidates who have qualified for the Master’s degree from any academic institution recognized by UGC (with not less than 55% of marks, or a CGPA of 5.5 and above in the 10 point scale) are eligible to register for Ph.D. at JNCT Professional University.

In case of candidates holding a qualifying degree from foreign universities/ institution, registration for Ph.D. at JNCT Professional University will be confirmed after determination of equivalence by the Directorate of Research& Development (DoRD) .
A candidate would be allowed to register for Ph.D. in a department relevant to his/her field of study, but the degree would be awarded from the Faculty in which he/she has got his/her PG degree.
Master’s degree qualifying marks
Candidates who have passed M.Phil/UGC-CSIR NET/JRF/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellow are exempted from the entrance examination.
